Jonathan David

Jonathan David, 23, is a forward at Ligue 1 side Lille, and was a member of Canada's 2022 FIFA World Cup squad. He became Canada's second all-time top goalscorer and Lille's all-time top goalscorer in Ligue 1 at just 22 years of age. In his debut season in France (2020/21), David and Lille won a historic Ligue 1 championship. Jonathan contributed a pivotal part to Lille's league-winning form, scoring 13 goals, including five match-winners. The following year, David’s goalscoring form in the UEFA Champions League highlighted Lille’s campaign. In Europe’s top competition, he earned UEFA’s Man of the Match in his Champions League debut and scored in Matchdays 4 through 6, which saw Lille win their Group for the first time in club history. Prior to joining Lille, Jonathan played for Belgian side KAA Gent, where he made his professional debut in 2018. Jonathan was KAA Gent’s leading scorer across all competitions, including 7 goals and 2 assists in the UEFA Europa League. He finished the 2019-20 season as the Belgian league's top scorer. In August 2020, David earned a move to LOSC Lille in Ligue 1. The transfer fee set a new club-record and was also the highest fee paid for a Canadian and for a player from Belgium’s top flight. Jonathan was Simultaneously named a finalist for the 2020 Golden Boy Award. At the international level, Jonathan is Canada’s second all-time top goalscorer. In 2019, he was named Canada Soccer’s Player of the Year after winning the Golden Boot at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
